Happy Monday! I’m up with a guest post over on the Heffy Doodle blog today, sharing a birthday balloon card with you today that prominently features not one of the main characters in the Elephant of Surprise set, but one of those additional accessories – the balloon. These additional accessories shouldn’t be overlooked as they can often create fantastic backgrounds! Imagine a hundred balloons being released at once – this is the feeling I was going for with this birthday card.
Birthday Balloon Card Tutorial
Firstly, I started out by stamping the Elephant of Surprise balloon multiple times over the background, ensuring that they mainly faced upwards as if they were floating up into the sky. Then I stamped them out in Copic friendly ink so I could colour them in with my Copic markers, sticking to a four colour palette – red, yellow, teal and purple. Next, I used a very light blue-green to trace around each of the balloons to add some depth and interest. I finished up the background by adding a few details with a white pen for highlights.
Then I used the Lawn Fawn Scripty Happy die to cut out the sentiment three times, stacking them and colouring in the top layer with the same red copic markers as the balloons. I stamped out the last word ‘birthday’ from the sentiment ‘it was your birthday’ on a strip of yellow card stock, clear heat embossing over the black ink. Next, I matted this on some black card stock and adhered directly to the background. Finally, I adhered the happy die cut over the sentiment strip and added some Glossy Accents to make it stand out.
A little Wink of Stella over the balloons to give then a bit of sparkle gives the finishing touch.
This is a great way to get the most out of your stamp sets and definitely a challenge I will set myself for future projects!
