I’m back over on the Heffy Doodle blog today with the next in my Clean and Simple (CAS) card series. Today’s step-by-step tutorial is all about stencil layering cards using the new Circle Masquerade stencil in combination with a bunch of other Heffy stencils. Paired with the Elephant of Surprise stamp set and the Whatcha Saying stamp and die set, this design makes for some quick but colourful cards!
Stencil Layering Cards Tutorial
Firstly, I started out with the backgrounds, lining up the Circle Masquerade stencil onto some heavyweight white top-folding card bases. I wanted some bright, bold primary colours as I knew the elephants would be grey, so I chose to bring out the Distress Inks and my brushes. Here are the colours I used for each card:
Yellow: Spiced Marmalade, Wild Honey, Mustard Seed
Red: Fired Brick, Candied Apple, Abandoned Coral
Blue: Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Blueprint Sketch, Faded Jeans
Next I chose another stencil design (for these cards I used Fancy Foliage, Wonderfully Woven and Basket Case) and layered this over the top of the Circle Masquerade. I used the two darker inks to create a pretty toned pattern over the circle mask.
Next up is my favourite part: the Copic colouring! I stamped out the three elephants and balloon from the Elephant of Surprise stamp set (I didn’t end up using the birthday cake in the end) in some Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto some blending card stock.
I used some Warm Grey markers (W00, W2, W4, W6 and W8) for their bodies and some blue markers (B02, B04, B06) for the balloon. I cut these out with the coordinating dies.
All each of the cards needed now was a sentiment. The Whatcha Sayin’ sentiment set has a great range of sentiments and a great die that cuts a stitched speech bubble. I used some Catherine Pooler die inks in Tiki Torch, All That Jazz and Samba to stamp out some coordinating sentiments.
This is a really easy design that I hope you’ll give a try!
Thanks for reading, happy crafting!
