It’s been a while since I set aside my markers for my coloured pencils. I love the look of pencil on kraft cardstock, so my card over on the Seven Hills Crafts blog today is just that. This Simple Gifts birthday card features the Avery Elle A Head Above stamp set and some no-line pencil colouring.
Simple Gifts Birthday Card Tutorial
I started out by stamping out the elephant and giraffe. I used some Lawn Fawn Jellyfish ink (so it wouldn’t be too visible through the pencil) on an A6 kraft card base.
I chose some bright pencils to colour in the scene, building up the colour in layers and making sure to boost the contrast between the dark shadows and light highlights to give some dimension. Just a simple line or two under the characters helps to ground them and provide a natural place for the sentiment.
I stamped the sentiment in some Versafine Clair Nocturne ink under the coloured scene. A couple of finishing touches with a white gel pen finishes off this clean and simple birthday card. Try colouring on kraft cardstock and see what you can create!
