Hello! Not many sleeps left now until the big day. My card today presents a dearly cute merry little Christmas scene featuring the Deer to Me stamps and the Tree-mendous Peekaboo dies. It’s great when you can take a non-festive set and make it just a little more Christmassy with some white paint and a gel pen!
Dearly Merry Christmas Card Tutorial
I started off with stamping out the deer from Deer to Me in some Lawn Fawn Jet Black ink on some Alcohol Marker Friendly Cardstock. I coloured them in with my Copic markers, making sure to stick to some warmer colours to differentiate them from the background trees (E20s are perfect for critters!). I die cut these out with the coordinating dies.
Next up was the background. For the base, I lightly stencil brushed on some Distress Ink in Tumbled Glass, just to give some differentiation from the ground. We’ve had plenty of those cold, blue skies in recent weeks! For the layers, I used a die from the Slimline Scenery dies to die cut two white layers for the snow.
The trees were fun to create, though I found it was better to ink up the card before die cutting to avoid bent branches! I used some Vintage Photo Distress ink, adding some Ground Expresso to the edges once die cut to give some dimension.
These I layered together. A handy tip here when you have multiple layers and you’re not using foam tape: use scrap pieces of cardstock to make up the different heights. It’s not pretty – but who sees the back anyway – but it ensures you don’t get that ugly demarcation line between layers.
I adhered the layers together, stamping out a simple sentiment from the Classic Sentiments stamps on the bottom snow layer.
I’ll admit it wasn’t looking very festive at this point, just a little bleak and wintery. Bring in the white paint and gel pen! Adding some snow to the scene helped to bring it into a more cute and festive zone. You might need a few layers of the white on the trees to ensure you don’t get brown-tinted snow!
A fun and wintery card. This is my last post for this year so I hope you all have a good festive season, whatever holiday you celebrate, and here’s to a happy, healthy and fun new year 2023!
