Dreaming Elephants Shaker Card Tutorial

My card for the hop is something a little different for me – it’s a shaker card. I’m usually one for colouring, but this release had so many interactive elements and sequins that I couldn’t help myself!

I used the new Two by Two Zoo Animals stamps and coordinating dies, stamping out the two cute elephants onto some Alcohol Marker Friendly Cardstock and stamping with some Lawn Fawn Jet Black Ink. I coloured them in with my Copic Markers, sticking to Warm Greys. I cut these out with the coordinating dies and got to work on the background.

I used the Sky High Cloud Backdrop die to create my colourful sunset panel. I blended on some Seedless Preserves, Worn Lipstick and Blended Honey Distress Inks to get a lovely blend that would match my chosen sequin mixes. I added some of the clouds left over from the die cutting to give some extra dimension.

To make the shaker portion, I cut out a frame by using two of my Stitched Imperial Rectangle dies and another panel from heatproof acetate. I adhered these to either side of the coloured panel.

Using some Heffy Foam Tape 3mm, I made two channels on the back of the coloured panel – one at the top and one at the bottom. I put a scoop of sequins in each – Tickled Pink at the top and Pumpkin Spice at the bottom. I love how these mixes match the Distress Ink colours! I adhered it all to a top-folding card base to secure the shaker parts.

The sentiment was cut using the Happy Birthday Jumbo Sentiment dies, backed with some Navy Huckleberry cardstock. A few additional sequins to up the bling and my shaker card is finished!

I have had that alcohol-ink-friendly cardstock in my “saved for later” cart at Scrapbook.com for months now — you remind me that I have really been meaning to give it a try.
