It’s a fabulously sunny Saturday here in the UK and I have a fun card to share with you featuring the HeffyDoodle Hello Squeakheart stamp set. This Squeakheart Tank Birthday Card is dedicated to Lesley Oman’s little cutie, Fiskars, the long tailed gerbil!
Squeakheart Tank Birthday Card Tutorial
This A6 sized card is a little more complicated than my usual style, but the idea is loosely based around this tea light card. MayMay can explain it much better than I can so it might be worth watching her video before attempting a similar card. I wanted the feel of a gerbil tank, building up the layers so they could be seen through the front acetate window. It looks as though these little guys are having a lot of fun in that tank!
The tea-light design in based on an A4 piece of paper cut in half lengthwise, scored down the middle (at 5 and 7/8th inches) and at 3 inches either side of the centre. I adhered some acetate to the back of the front panel for the glass and blended on some Distress Oxide Inks in Faded Jeans, Salty Ocean and Cracked Pistachio onto the back panel.
On some additional 8 inch panels, I blended on some Squeezed Lemonade and Spiced Marmalade Distress Oxide Ink and cut them out using a Lawn Fawn Stitched Hillside Border die, scoring them down the middle so they would fold along with the main panels. I adhered them either directly onto the front or back panels, or by using some strips of card.
I coloured a bunch of the little cuties in the set with my Copic markers, die cut them with my Scan and Cut and then adhered them throughout the layers to create a fun scene. A couple of them I adhered in front of the acetate. I also coloured up a few more panels with the Distress Oxide Inks in Faded Jeans, Salty Ocean and Cracked Pistachio, cutting them out with a Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangle die and adhering them to the inner side panels.
To finish off the inside, I white heat embossed the fabulous sentiment from the set (“HAVE A WHEELY GREAT DAY!”) onto some black card stock cut into a banner shape. I scored this down the centre and adhered directly to the front panel.
The front was looking a little bare, so I took a piece of leftover cardstock coloured with Squeezed Lemonade and Spiced Marmalade Distress Oxide Ink and clear heat embossed the sentiment using some Onyx Black Versafine Ink.
A really fun Interactive Squeakheart Tank Birthday card that I plan to give to my niece for her birthday – I know she’ll love it!
